Road to Nowhere in Anzio Italy

This sculpture was part of the 'Anzio R.I.S.E for the Ocean' event on the 21st of June in Anzio near Rome.

It's almost 6 meters high and made out of discarded styrofoam boxes used by the local fishermen and then covered with a fishing net.

18.000 styrofoam boxes are being used each month in Anzio alone by fishermen...

The R.I.S.E festival turned the harbour into a shared space for citizens, fishermen, artists, and scientists around an urgent challenge: removing polystyrene from the harbour and the ocean through concrete actions.

Special thanks to Marcello Dato for making this project happen and my amazing sculpture team - Emanuel Kangudie Francesco Ernesto Bove Carla Paiolo Souphienne and Costantin Zampa - Valeria for letting us use her space for the initial build, and the team of Cantiere Navale Gallinari Innocenzo XII - Gianpaolo, Bruno and Cristian - for the final build! Without you all I could have never made this happen ♥️

It was an interesting follow-up to the smaller project I did in the harbor of Anzio two years ago:
